About the event

Walk the streets where Caribbean history was forged in London on this 60-minute guided tour, revealing the raw, dramatic, and human stories of the Windrush generation — their struggle, resistance, ingenuity and the cultural avalanche that became Europe’s biggest street festival, including flashpoints like the Notting Hill riots, the murder of Kelso Cochrane, the exploitation of tenants by Peter Rachman, the civil rights battle of the Mangrove Nine and the birth of Notting Hill Carnival, threading through community formed in clubs and shebeens, the lingering pang of displacement via gentrification, and cultural echoes amplified by voices like Bob Marley, all underscored by insights recognised by The Voice and cultural partners including London councils, with past features in press such as The Voice, VICE and heritage discourse carried through publications like VICE; a tour proving that this history isn’t archival, it’s predictive — a backdrop to now, a map to next, and a story still unfolding beneath our feet.
