About the event

This week at M&F Cinema, the reins are handed to Director Hong Khaou — master of quiet devastation, poet of longing glances, and a man who knows the power of what’s left unsaid. He presents Seven Films to See Before Next Week, which, in his hands, feels less like a bucket list and more like a meditation on memory, identity, and everything we never quite manage to say out loud.

Best known for Lilting and Monsoon — films that whisper rather than shout, and somehow leave you more emotionally unspooled than you were expecting — Hong curates with the same elegance he directs. These are stories that drift between cultures and continents, between lovers and the spaces they leave behind.

He’ll Introduce POETRY at 7:30pm on Saturday 28th June

“I love this film so much. Poetry is full of humanity and subtlety, yet it allows you to arrive at its truths in your own time. I find it difficult to describe his filmmaking style, but I’m full of admiration. There’s a quiet sureness and confidence, and yet it remains slightly allusive. He’s a rare filmmaker, with a cinematic language I seldom see in others.”

Director Hong Khaou’s week of curated films runs from Monday 23 – Sunday 29 June.
